How this is worked out

This compares cost, not luck. Both options point the same hashrate at your own Bitcoin address, so the odds of finding a block are identical. Nothing on this page predicts earnings, because nobody honestly can.
Renting uses our longest plan, held for the whole period. Power, hardware and hosting are ours.
Buying counts the hardware price plus electricity at 24/7 operation. It leaves out shipping, import duties, resale value and repairs.
Prices. Both prices exclude VAT: our shop deducts it on a delivery to United States and our rentals charge none there. You would pay your own import duty or sales tax on the hardware instead. Hardware prices come from our shop; Shop prices checked 3 h ago. The Bitaxe Gamma is rated 1.1 TH/s where the rented tier delivers 1.2; every other pair is matched exactly, and each column shows its cost per TH/s. Country electricity rates are typical household prices including taxes — yours will differ, type it in.
